Biffy Clyro + Muse, Pavilhão Atlântico, 29/11/2009

O titulo diz tudo. As partes orquestrais fizeram falta e as musicas pareceram despidas.

Totally worth it!

The Fall of Troy - Panic Attack!

New album by The Fall of Troy is out. I like to think that some of "At the Drive-In"'s spirit lives on because of this band. This is the 1st song in the album and a rather good way to start it. That first riff just sucks you in for the rest :D

Flogging Molly - The Worst Day Since Yesterday

Sometimes you'll be watching an episode of some tv show, and you'll think "wow this song really fits here!". I just watched a SGU episode built around this song. It has a Bob Dylan folksy sound. And everybody has had this feeling already, that that day is the worst since yesterday.

Cool song, but you'd have to watch the episode to get the full effect of it! ;)

Elric - Michael Moorcock

Just finished reading another fantasy classic. Elric of Melnibone is a noble from a dying race, a feeble albino prince that carries the dark sword Stormbringer. It would be just another regular fantasy book if you didn't take in account that it's a book from 1961, that helped define a genre. But why read it? Why is the book special?

Elric is not a nice guy... he's the definition of THE anti-hero. The book is a collection of short stories, and the first is about how he betrays his own kingdom and leads a band of marauders to pillage it. He ends up killing both his evil cousin and the woman he loved (not on purpose... Stormbringer has a will of its own). He becomes an exile, travelling the world, finding no rest.

Stormbringer plays an important role on the character: the sword gives him strength, BUT it demands souls to feed on, condemning whoever it kills to eternal damnation. The problem is the sword must feed, either from the enemies souls or from the souls of Elric's friends. So Elric travels the world with a wicked sword that causes him a lot of sorrow, but without which he could not survive. It adds a lot of flavour to the story.

Muse - Undisclosed Desires - Unnatural Selection

Catchy and easy song. I think Muse are going for the generation that grew up listening to Britney Spears and are looking for something more elaborate... the album is everything BUT easy.

I now show you what is in my opinion the best song in the album... live performance:

Kings of Convenience - Coliseu dos Recreios - 04/11/2009

Singing Softly to Me:

I'd Rather Dance With You:

These are 2 videos I recorded tonight with my mobile... sorry but I didn't have the patience to rotate the videos 90º. Those are two of the funniest moments of the concert: the first of them Erlend Øye takes a walk around the croud singing, something he said he wanted to do for a long time; on the second, Erlend dances with the crowd that had climbed on the stage.
It was one great show, tough boring sometimes since the band lacks variety. Still, I'd recommend seeing them live if you get the chance :)

Why have sex with someone else when you could do it with yourself?

Why have sex with someone else when you could do it with yourself?
When I was young and attending school, I learned all these stuff about evolution, genetics, etc... At the time, some of them had been proved, some of them were still theories. I still get this warm feeling every time one of these theories is proven correct... It's like "ok... scientists keep getting it right". And why is this important to me?
You see, I have no religious beliefs, but I do believe in science. I wouldn't go as far as some people that state that their religion is Science... it isn't a religion because by definition, every dogma in Science may/will someday be proven wrong, or some better explanation found for it. But it still makes me feel like I did the right choice for me (and I added the "for me" because you're free to believe whatever you want). So today life makes a little more sense than it made yesterday :)

NOW, GO HAVE SEX AND MULTIPLY OUR GENE DIVERSITY!

The Dead Weather - Treat me Like Your Mother (live)

I was curious about these guys, so I thought "What the hell... let's give it a chance!" The two band members I knew about were the singer from The Kills and the great Jack White ... playing DRUMS???!?!? WTF?!?!
This is a live performance of their single, "Treat me Like Your Mother". Not the best song in the album, but I guess the record company tryed to cash out on Jack White's know style... the rest of the album is more bluesy, down to earth.
I prefer this live performance to the album version. And what a great performance by the singer Alison Mosshart.

Moon

This is a slow movie about a guy who has been mining the moon for 3 years. His only companion is the base AI. His contract is just about to end, and he's about to go back to his family... and then something happens... and I'll leave it at that :P WATCH IT
Sam Rockwell deserves an award for this movie... he probably won't get it in the end, but it's a role of a lifetime.

G.I. Joe - Rise of Cobra

Well I have to say I was surprised. The plot is as predictable as you could expect from one of these movies, BUT the way it's told with regular flashbacks giving inside information on several characters appealed to me. And the characters are so stereotypical that you end up liking them... the french guy with the french accent made me laugh a lot.
The movie doesn't take itself seriously and it's all about the weapons, the suits, the subs, the bases, etc... just as the cartoons were. BUT they dropped the "US is the greatest nation ever" that was typical in the cartons, and made it a world wide team.
To sum up, a lot of action, fun and really cool special fx. I had fun, so I recommend it :)
