Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy

I prefer the album version, this a more dancelike version. But the video is really cool. Simple concept and well executed.

Men Without Pants - Keep on Movin

As I was driving back home to Lisbon, heard this song...great for a roadtrip :D

Men Without Pants are a formidable duo: Dan the Automator + Russell Simins (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion). Check out their album!

House Season 6

It seems that almost every time House comes back, I do a post on the series... I know that eventually almost every episode falls into the routine... BUT the main episodes are always great.

Season debuts with House in the madhouse... it's reminds me heavily of the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. But it has the "House vibe". Anyway, great opening episodes and it gave me a feeling that this season can be quite a bit different.

I don't think the new doctors idea suceeded... it was a good premise, but it ultimately failed. Except for cut-throat bitch! Now that was a character! Anyway, let's see what comes out of this new season!

Off Centre - Pudding pudding pudding

This is one of the best clips ever from the sitcom Off Centre :D Looking back, it wasn't that great of a show, BUT Chau's wisdom will always stay with us :D

For all the people with HP Laptops

I had this HP laptop with a major OS meltdown, and decided to crack it open, take out the hardrive, and connect it to my PC to salvage all I could. It could have worked if only... well, you can see for yourselves on the pictures... the topmost picture is the industry standard connector for that HD model... the bottom one was the idiotic proprietary connector I found when I took it out. It's the same number of pins, and it takes the same space inside the laptop... so WHY!?!?!

Disgaea

This is an amazing strategy game :) I liked it because:
- it's challenging... some levels require heavy thinking and the AI won't forgive any mistakes
- the sense that you keep getting stronger and stronger is brutal... everything levels up: items, characthers, skills, spells, everything!
- except for 2 or 3 main characters, you build your party as you so desire, you are free to chose which way to go
- anime crazyness extreme... it makes fun of everything, itself included

I could go into an in depth explanation of why the game is so great, but I found this really great review about it. If you feel curious, check it out. it has a nerdy narrator too :P

Enter Shikari - Juggernauts

Lately, after giving a ride to some of my friends I keep getting the same question "WTF?!? What is this? It's strange!".
And that is Enter Shikari, one of the most original modern bands. They mix electronic music with rock/hardcore. My choice of a single wouldn't be this song, but I guess it's the easiest on the hear from their new album.
They'll be coming to Portugal, opening up for The Prodigy. I think it will be one hell of a concert!

Anyway, like it or hate it, you got to give them credit for being original and sounding good!

Weezer - Miss Sweeney (live & acoustic)

This song is a bonus track from their latest album (meaning either you get the deluxe version of the album, or you're not getting this track). It would be a regular song if it wasn't for the amazing transformation between bored boss and completely in love boss. You get a better feel of this on the album version (there I have to say the transition is perfect). Still I decided to share this recreation of the love for Miss Sweeney.
You'll probably end up rooting for the boss, as I do every time I listen to this song! Come on Miss Sweeney!

Visita ao Alentejo - parte I

I booked 2 nights at this Hotel and visited the locations around it. There aren't many photos of the first day, but here are some that I think came out cool. The first one (above) was the road trip.

Instead of going directly to the hotel, I visited the small small really small village of Alvalade. So the two photos I'll share with you are the following: typical Alentejo landscape AND me above a historical mark holding another historical mark on my hand (Benfica 8 - Setubal 1).

Then off for a first visit of the mining town of Aljustrel. The first photo was taken from the top of the hill, where the church is standing. They built that starway up there :) A must see. Then I took a photo besides an anti-fascist monument, not noticing I was wearing a black shirt... SHAME ON ME. Finally, going back to the hotel, an Alentejo sunset.

Inglorious Basterds

Enough has been said about this one. It was a great movie indeed, but I ended up not liking it as much as I did other Tarantino movies. I thought about it, and the conclusion I came to was that this movie succeeds in creating two different flows: on one side, you get to experience the panic and fear of a real historical movie; on the other, you have this dark comedy, sometimes ridiculous. And that didn't work very well for me.
I still strongly recommend it. It has amazing actors, great moments of humour, and those dialogues that make Tarantino movies worthwile :) I didn't know where the movie was going but I must say I simply loved the ending! 8/10

Hans Rosling on how our mindset is wrong

This is a TED talk about health and economic issues, focusing on the classical "modern country vs developing country" labels and why they are wrong and shouldn't be used.
Mind opening to say the least!

Thanks Ruben for one more TED talk worth sharing!

Heart Shaped Box

No, this is not a reference to the Nirvana song! This is a book, and a great one!
I bought it because it read in the back something like "guy that collects strange stuff, like a recipe book for cannibals, buys a dead man's suit... and ends up getting a ghost for free". That and the fact that it was a best seller sealed the deal for me.
Mid book I was amazed... the writing style was just great. I got goosebumps several times while reading it at night, because it completely succeeds in transmitting that urgency vibe, that "you got to get out of there" feeling that only the best horror writers get right . I thought to myself "though different, this guy can be the next Stephen King". So I googled him.
Turns out, Joe Hill is Stephen Kings son. I'm referring this as a curiosity, and I won't diminish him to a Stephen King wannabe... he is Joe Hill, and he wrote a really great book.
I'll be keeping an eye on his future work :)
